Game-based learning for businesses is becoming a strategic training solution in the insurance industry. The case study “VITA Colorful Journey,” implemented by Talent Gate in collaboration with Generali Vietnam, demonstrates how digitalized and gamified training can enhance learning effectiveness, reduce operating costs, and create an exceptional learning experience for a large workforce of insurance agents.
About the client:
Generali is a leading global insurance and asset management group from Italy, with a history spanning over 194 years. Currently, Generali operates in over 50 countries and is ranked among the top 500 largest companies globally according to the Fortune Global 500.
In Vietnam, after more than 14 years of operation, Generali Vietnam has established itself as one of the leading life insurance companies, with a widespread distribution network comprising over 100 general agencies and agency offices nationwide, and more than 21,000 active insurance agents.
Before launching the project, Generali Vietnam already had a relatively complete online training platform. However, traditional eLearning methods gradually revealed limitations in maintaining learning motivation, especially when rapid training for a new product on a large scale and with high quality requirements was needed.
The Challenge
The Vietnamese insurance industry is undergoing a period of significant transformation in legal frameworks, products, and compliance requirements. These changes force insurance companies to continuously update training content, ensuring that their sales representatives are well-versed in the knowledge before launching their business.
In this context, Generali Vietnam is preparing to launch a new product – VITA Universal Life Insurance – A Secure Tomorrow. This poses an urgent challenge for the Agency Training Development (ATD) department:
- How to quickly and consistently train thousands of sales representatives nationwide on the product?
- How can we make learners proactive, engaged, and effectively retain knowledge, instead of just “learning to complete”?
- How can we optimize training costs and time while still ensuring the quality of the output?
Especially since online training is no longer a novelty at Generali, the biggest challenge is creating a completely different learning experience, one that is engaging enough to attract employees to participate.
Strategy
Talent Gate approached the project with the motto: training is not just about transmitting knowledge, but about an experiential journey. Instead of digitizing content in the conventional way, the Talent Gate team
together with ATD Generali, chose a game-based learning approach for the company, transforming product learning into an adventure with clear goals, challenges, and rewards.
Implementation Solution
The “VITA Colorful Journey” project is designed as a learning game, where learners are the main characters, exploring a journey consisting of 4 challenging stages, each corresponding to a “land” with its own colors and story.
Talent Gate flexibly applied ideas from many familiar game mechanisms such as Angry Birds, Flappy Bird, Coin Catcher, tree climbing, etc., and refined them to suit insurance content. The in-game help system is named after terms associated with the product such as Protection, Shield, Heart, Health, Home, etc., both supporting learners and increasing their ability to remember knowledge.
In addition, all learning behaviors of the players (scores, time, number of times help was used, etc.) are recorded in real time, allowing ATD to monitor, evaluate, and classify learners objectively and in detail.
Through this program, several points can be further developed and promoted within businesses to enhance the learning experience for learners, such as:
- Digital training can successfully personalize and gamify for large, diverse groups of learners.
- Motivating learning through competition and gamification is far more effective than traditional training. Introducing team-based competition mechanisms, rankings, rewards, etc., helps increase lesson completion rates and knowledge retention.
- Close collaboration and coordination between all parties is key. Continuous collaborative design, testing, and adjustment have ensured that the content aligns with brand strategy while remaining engaging for learners.
- Real-time learning data allows for more flexible training management. Continuously measured learning outcomes enable the L&D department to quickly identify slow learners, intervene promptly, and adjust training plans.
Results
The program achieved outstanding results in several areas:
- The course completion rate reached 98.1%, demonstrating a high degree of suitability to the needs and time constraints of consultants.
- In just the first 10 days, over 600 people participated with a total of over 800 game plays, of which 30% actively returned to review after completion.
- The program saved approximately 50% of training time compared to traditional methods, while significantly reducing organizational costs.
- 97% of consultants felt more confident preparing for the certification exam; over 98% rated game-based review as helping them access knowledge more easily and retain it longer.
Student Feedback:
“Learning without pressure, cute visuals, easy-to-remember content. 5-star rating.”
“Not boring, beautiful interface, very impressive.”
On the part of ATD Generali, the management team highly appreciated the creativity, design quality, and the program’s effectiveness exceeding expectations, affirming that this is a training model that can be replicated for future products.
Conclusion
Through the “VITA Colorful Journey” project, game-based learning for businesses has proven to be an effective, sustainable, and suitable training solution for the insurance industry in the context of strong digital transformation. The program not only helped Generali Vietnam’s consultants master the knowledge of the VITA – Solid Tomorrow product, but also created a positive, proactive, and inspiring learning experience.
With its content design capabilities, technology, and modern training mindset, Talent Gate continues to affirm its role as a strategic partner in digital training projects, delivering long-term value to businesses and learners.
