Case study

PVComBank is a bank that consistently innovates in all its business and operational activities. Because of this, the competency requirements of PVCB’s personnel are always a priority for senior management, who invest heavily in their development. After several rounds of bidding, Talent Gate was selected to develop a competency framework for PVCB, from analyzing the current situation to completing the assessment of the organization’s capabilities.
PVCB is a medium-sized bank within Vietnam’s banking system. They have a full range of positions, credit and support services, comparable to a Big4 bank. With a relentless desire for growth, they have very high demands for personnel development. PVCB’s leadership, with its strategic vision, recognized that human resource development needs to start from the root: perfecting the competency framework. Over a period of 1.5 years, Talent Gate collaborated with PVCB to build this framework, from core to leadership, from business to headquarters. The competencies were developed in detail, consistently, ensuring a unified understanding and flexible application based on a rigorous methodology tailored specifically to PVCB. To achieve this, in the initial phase, Talent Gate collaborated with PVCB in analyzing the current situation and assessing the reality to develop effective and sustainable methodologies. In any project, the analysis time is like sharpening an axe to cut down a tree; the implementation process only takes one hour. Similarly, this project adopted a cautious approach, continuously analyzing, discussing, and agreeing with PVCB’s management on the implementation methods for each stage and target group during implementation. However, the core criteria remained consistent to ensure the uniformity of the competency framework. The project followed a standardized international human resource consulting methodology: Analysis, Proposal, Implementation, Evaluation… Due to its large scale, many unforeseen situations arose during implementation. However, with the rare perseverance and effort of PVCB and the Talent Gate team of experts, the project was completed in 1.5 years – a relatively quick timeframe given its wide scope and high demands for accuracy and sustainability of competency. It is truly a source of pride that all PVCB employees are aware of the Competency Framework, understand it, and know how to apply it in practice. To maintain it in the coming years, businesses need to reassess employee competencies and apply it more extensively to all HR activities. PVCB is continuing its implementation, and Talent Gate is proud to continue its partnership and be selected for PVCB’s next stages of human resource development. Through this project, we all understand that to build and complete a massive project, we must not be afraid.
